Obituary for Mary Jane Mausehund

Mary J. Mausehund, 97, of Mason City and formerly of Rudd, died Sunday (January 13, 2019) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, surrounded by her loving family.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday (January 17, 2019) at Eden Presbyterian Church, 3105 Glass Avenue, Rudd, with the Rev. Catherine Belles officiating. Burial will follow in Eden Presbyterian Cemetery.

Mary Jane Strand was born on November 28, 1921 in Emmetsburg, the daughter of Art and Irene Strand. On September 8, 1940 she was united in marriage to Herbert Mausehund on the family farm; together they would be blessed with five children.

In earlier years Mary worked alongside Herbert on the farm, all the while raising the children and tending to the home. She was a devoted mother and in later years, grandmother, great, and great-great grandmother. She cherished every moment spent with her family.

Always one to keep busy, Mary loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was proud to provide the Altar flowers each Sunday from her own garden. She enjoyed playing 500 and was a member of many different cards clubs throughout the years. Mary was active within the Mason City Senior Center and was a member of the Lime Creek Nature Center.

Mary was known for her giving heart; she gave unconditionally through word and deed. Through countless hours of volunteer work Mary touched the lives of many at the Nora Springs School, IOOF Home, Nora Springs Care Center, and Good Shepherd Health Center. She was a talented pianist and shared her talents among the residents at all facilities. She was a two time recipient of the Giving Your Best Award, and was recognized by the Nora Springs Care Center as Volunteer of the Year. Mary was a strong, independent woman and until recent months still lived independently in her own home.

Mary also loved sewing, crocheting, embroidering, cooking, and baking; all talents that she passed down to her grandchildren. She was very active within the Eden Presbyterian Church, sharing her love of quilting, helping with the Ice Cream Social, and was active within the Eden Women. She was also a member of Royal Neighbors of America.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her children, Janet Nauman, Nora Springs, Larry Mausehund, St. Ansgar, and June (Frank) McFarland, Osage; daughter in law, Linda Mausehund; 17 loving grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren; siblings, Doris Paulsen, Irvin Strand, and Bette Legler; as well as extended family and many friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; parents, Art and Irene; her children, Joan Gudmonson and Leslie Mausehund; son in law, David Nauman; grandchildren, Leslie and Linda Mausehund; great grandsons, Eric Grady and Ryan Mausehund; and brother, Lloyd Strand.
