Lloyd Omer Strand was born December 16, 1925 in Cylinder, Iowa the son of Art and Irene (Oneson) Strand. He attended Cylinder Schools. Following his education, Lloyd served in the United States Army during WWII, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Lloyd was united in marriage to Irene Jacobson, on July 6, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Depew. To this union, five sons and a daughter were born. The couple farmed north of Depew for 17 years before moving to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where Lloyd worked for Berkley's. They spent 20 years there, eight years in Terril, and the past several years were spent in Emmetsburg. Lloyd was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post 2295 and Sons' of Norway. He enjoyed woodworking, making toys and rocking horses, playing cards, dancing and spending time with grandchildren. His favorite pastime was fishing, and he won several angler awards throughout his lifetime. On Thursday, January 3, 2008, Lloyd passed away at Avera Hospital in Spencer, Iowa. Left to cherish his memory are: five sons: his daughter, a brother, three sisters;18 grand-children and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Irene and two infant grandsons.
Service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cylinder, Iowa. Military Rites by the V.F.W. Post 2295 of Emmetsburg. Burial will be in North St. John's Cemetery, Cylinder.
Visitation: Visitation is 4 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 7th at the Funeral Home.

Lloyd Omer Strand, 81, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Avera Hospital in Spencer, Iowa. He was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Cylinder, Iowa, the son of Art and Irene (Oneson) Strand.
Survivors include his son: Dennis and wife, Ruth, of Blanco.
Funeral Services are at 10:30 a.m., today, Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Cylinder. Burial is in North St. John's Cemetery in Cylinder. The family greeted friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
